I'm thrilled to anounce the birth of my second son.
Koen Alexander was born June 1st. At 4:05pm weighting 7lbs and 2 ounces. He is 20 inches long and absolutly perfect!

Late again But only by one day!

That's right Kael is 28 months as of yesterday at 6:50 PM!

Rock Jumping and Flower Sniffing

Yesterday afternoon we spent some time at a local park doing some rock jumping and flower sniffing. all in a attempt to wear a busy two year old out.

My daredevil child has no fear of jumping off rocks and although he almost cracked his head once I still let him do it, but stopped him when he tried to jump off a picnic table.

I said to him maybe when your five you can do that. He promptly told me "three more sleeps mommy" "No hunny 3 more years but good math."

Yes my two year old can do basic math.

After rock jumping was complete. we went to do something a little easier on my heart.

Sniff some flowers, although Kael wanted to get right up and close he figured it out pretty quickly.

Toddler Friendly!

I recently purchased the iphone!

And I love it.

So does Kael.

It's very toddler friendly.

I downloaded some apps for him

along with some Sesame street videos.

It works out great for trips

to the hospital which lately have become

some what of a frequent thing

Kael has had some lung problems

croup and asthma

and maybe some strep throat

possible chest infection

but the iphone

has worked out well

in keeping him distracted

overall I give it a 9 out of 10.

I bought it to replace the phone

that may or may not been put in the

toilet by a unnamed party!!!!!!!

I have been in no way compensated by apple.

Although if they wanted to I wouldn't object!!

Kael is 21 months old today Although his corrected age is 19 months I am still impressed with his progress! He weighs 25 pounds and is growing like a weed!

Airport Mistake

Since there is no not me Monday I'll just tell you what happened Sunday!

Sunday Kael and I went to the airport to pick up Grandma and Grandpa B.

According to there email they would be arriving at 10:15am at Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

So we left the house at 8:30am and Arrive at the Airport at 10am, 15min early!

So we find international arrivals and we take a seat to wait and Kael runs around been as cute as can be.

So a few planes have arrived and people have came and gone and still not Gram and Grap.

By now it 10:30, So I figure maybe they got the time wrong and I try to call Auntie C.

No answer at the house I try a few more time, still no answer, I thought she was still sleeping,

So I wait some more thinking ok maybe they were held up getting there bags.

Now it 11:30, I keeping call and calling Auntie C.

Never getting a answer.

Finally I get through to Auntie C. (probably spent about 50$ on phone calls)

She give me the flight number.

I go to Information

the man looks at me like I am retarted and tells me I am in the wrong Terminal and need to go to terminal 3.

I said I thought all international flight come into one terminal he looks at me and says sorry lady but we changed that a while a go.

So Freaking annoying.

YEP I spent two hours in the wrong terminal with a toddler.

Airports are fun! NOT!!!

We found Grandma and Grandpa in terminal 3 at 12pm a full 2hours after they had landed!

Friday I took him to emerge to have it x-rayed

we find out that it is a double sprain

and sent him home with orders to stay off it for at least one week

Once a month I take my sweet baby boy out for lunch and playtime, I have done this since he was born it used to be twice a month but it's much to expensive. I take him out to teach him how to act in public, we work on things like manner and general public socializing. Kael well.... is a social butterfly so he teaches me a few things.

This month I choose to take him to our local mall and have lunch, check out the tractors(we live in the country) and then to Play Street.

With a little help from the pink stuff amoxicillin Kael will destroy pneumonia!

He loves the taste!

I don't even have to force him to take it! He will do it himself!
He says "mmmmmmmmmm Mum mmmm!"

As for his inhalers he is an old pro at taking them!

The end result is a happy boy!

On Monday we will back to the doctors for a chest X-ray and some more test!

We spent the afternoon getting chest x ray, heart ultra sounds and blood work.
but with a little abuteral and Amoxocillin
he is on his way to a speedy recover!

How to teach your toddler to eat with a spoon!

Step 1

Spoon food into a bowl in front of your toddler. Hand him one spoon while you keep another.

Step 2

Let your baby play with the spoon while you use your own to feed the toddler. If thy decide to put the spoon in the food as well, let them.

Step 3

Fix yourself a small bowl of food to eat in front of your toddler. Make sure he also has a bowl and spoon in front of them. Watching you eat will show them what to do. Even if he doesn't understand how to scoop, simply touching the spoon to food will transfer food to his mouth.

Step 4

Place one piece of dry cereal on your toddler' s spoon. This will teach her the right way to hold the spoon without dropping it's contents. Using dry cereal is much less stressful than using liquid.

Step 5

Pour some soup into a bowl. Give your toddler the bowl and a baby spoon. Let him use the spoon to transfer liquid from the bowl to his mouth.

Step 6

practice practice practice!!!

Kael is 19 months and almost always uses his spoon for eating!

It was not M who used mango papaya shampoo on Kael in his bath last night because he couldn't find the baby shampoo!

It was not M who used and old tee-shirt to diaper Kael when he couldn't find the cloth diapers.

It was not M who after his shower tried to put Kaels hooded towel on only to realize that it was much to small but used it anyway!!

It was not M who changed Kaels diaper before Nap time but forgot to put on a new one!

This is just stuff that week do on a daily basis it doesn't include doctors appointments, hospital visits, surgeon appointments, and emergency's. It also doesn't included the random asthma attacks and nebulizer treatments.

Lately I have been thinking about starting to take pictures of peoples kids and family for money. But I wonder if I have what it takes? I have been doing pictures for friends and family for free and they love it but I wonder if people would actually pay for pictures?

I love black and white photos?

I love taking pictures of my own son?

But Will I love it just as much if its for someone elses kid?

On the other hand I could use some extra cash!

But are my pictures good enough?

I have all the equipment I need camera ,flashes, some really good props like the chair in the above picture. I would invest in a nice back drop. I think maybe I could do this.

Snow pops and a bat!!

So MckMama made these wonderful looking snow pops.So I thought I would give it a try after all I did graduate from culinary school. the picture below is my version, much bigger, I call them snow balls. They tasted yummy, but baking isn't my thing and well I was seriously distracted by the picture below!

Yes thats a bat distracting me from concentrating on my snow pops.

I am still freaked out by this thing even though its not in my house any more!!!
I woke up yesterday to find this hang off a door way!

Kael thought is was a new pet. I told him it was a Bat and it was unwanted!

He replied "EEP mum eep tha tat" which translate to "Keep Mum keep the bat"

He also learned a new word "mine mine mine"

He thought it was a late christmas gift!!

To Kaels dismay the bat left when grandpa came and took it away!

now he looks up at the doorway and goes "tat tat tat"

I am glad to be rid of the creature!!!

Ok this is christmas day! Kael got a kitchen and he loves it!!!

Daddy showing kael presents! We had a lot to much in fact! This was after we had opened stocking and after kael threw up all over his grandfather! he was sick but still enjoyed Christmas!

Our present tree oops I mean Christmas tree!! I need a wide angel lens to get all the present in. there were a lot more and two big ones in the garage!!

Two days before christmas kael got into the tampon drawer. He likes to use them as cars! fun times!!

On the 24th we traveled 2 hours to have Christmas at my fathers!!

On Friday we received the results of Kael’s CF test!

They were negative!!
I was so relieved!

Kael is doing much better!
His lungs are clear
For the first time in months
His ear infections are gone
And he is getting back on
Track with eating and sleeping
He lost 3 pound with his last bout
Of pneumonia
so we are working on weight gain

Dr.W is monitoring him very closely
And he will be having monthly
Chest x-ray
hopefully this will revel the
Cause of his chronic pneumonia

we are currently weaning kael
off his antibiotic and nebulizer treatment

For now we wait
and pray for better health

Today was
the day
Today was the day Kael
had his
Cystic Fibrosis test

It took three tries
to collect enough sweat
we spent three hours
in the hospital.

The first attempt was at 10:30am
Once the collector
was in place around his arm
we were sent to the cafeteria
to get my baby running around
and that he did
he does that best
the first attempt
some sweat
was collected but not enough.

The second attempt was at 11:25am
once again we were sent to get
the little one running he
was tired
so not much running was done
we when to get the rest of the sweat we needed
and there was none
epic fail

The third attempt was at 12:35pm
Third times a charm
right?
this time i bundled him up
in his buggy
and walk around the hospital
Fortunately there was enough
sweat to finish the test.

So its been done and now
we wait......
till Friday.......

Cystic Fibrosis

On Tuesday my son will have a sweat test to determine if he has CF.

At this moment the doctor is just doing it as a measure of ruling things out.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic, progressive and genetic (inherited) disease of the body's exocrine (mucus producing) glands.

Symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis

The pattern of development of CF and the severity of its symptoms varies among individuals. The disease is sometimes obvious soon after birth, but some cases of CF, they are not detected for months (in infancy) or years (in childhood).

In babies and infants, the symptoms of CF are:

persistent diarrhea

bulky, foul smelling and greasy stools

pale stools

frequent wheezing or pneumonia

chronic cough with thick mucus

salty-tasting skin

poor growth

blockage of the intestine (called meconium ileus)

abdominal swelling

gassiness

vomiting

dehydration

KAEL has 10 of the symptoms listed.
Do this mean he has it
well this is why it is going to be tested.

For now i am trying not to freak out.
but the test must be done.

The rate of premature birth has never been higher. In half the cases, we simply don’t understand what went wrong. We need to fight for answers. And, ultimately, preventions.

Kaels pneumonia cleared up just in time for him to enjoy his second Halloween. It was his first time trick or treating and he loved it. He got lots of candy none of which he can eat but he's a social boy and loved the idea of seeing/meeting new people!

my little monkey has pneumonia
it really
really sucks
I am also in smack dab in the middle
of mid-terms
Kael is a coughing wheezy boy
his tempt drops and rises
he vomited all over me this morning
which promptly followed by this gross
brown and green Flem Delicious!
7 days of three new drug on top of the two he get for asthma
yep that 5 different drugs three times a day
and I am still finding time to study finish assignments and clean
and do the laundry
but sleep not so much
next week is reading week
i will have time to post more stuff
like my brothers wedding
which Sir Kael was a ring bearer in

Ok so here in the cold north and by that i mean Canada it is Thanks Giving Weekend

In Canada Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the simple fact that Canada is further north.

The history of Thanksgiving in Canada goes back to an English explorer, Martin Frobisher, who had been trying to find a northern passage to the Orient. He did not succeed but he did establish a settlement in Northern America. In the year 1578, he held a formal ceremony, in what is now called Newfoundland, to give thanks for surviving the long journey. This is considered the first Canadian Thanksgiving. Other settlers arrived and continued these ceremonies. He was later knighted and had an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean
in northern Canada named after him - Frobisher Bay.

At the same time, French settlers, having crossed the ocean and arrived in Canada with explorer Samuel de Champlain, also held huge feasts of thanks. They even formed 'The Order of Good Cheer' and gladly shared their food with their Indian neighbours.

After the Seven Year's War ended in 1763, the citizens of Halifax held a special day of Thanksgiving.

During the American Revolution, Americans who remained loyal to England moved to Canada where they brought the customs and practices of the American Thanksgiving to Canada. There are many similarities between the two Thanksgivings such as the cornucopia and the pumpkin pie.

Eventually in 1879, Parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. Over the years many dates were used for Thanksgiving, the most popular was the 3rd Monday in October. After World War I, both Armistice Day and Thanksgiving were celebrated on the Monday of the week in which November 11th occurred. Ten years later, in 1931, the two days became separate holidays and Armistice Day was renamed Remembrance Day.

Finally, on January 31st, 1957, Parliament proclaimed...

nothing like I thought

Motherhood is nothing like I thought it would be. It is so much more.

Kael is in daycare and I am in the full swing of school. This is where single parenting starts. I didn't realize how hard it would be to juggle school, daycare, and spending time with my little guy. On top of that is the fact that my friends have social lives. Don't get me wrong, I would never even think of trading my son for a social life, but when you are run down from running everywhere, you get a little jealous of regular people with regular lives. When people complain about trivial things, I find myself thinking "Now imagine doing that, going to school, raising a baby, and walking to school everyday in five feet of snow, uphill both ways! That would seem easy!" Ok, so when I think to myself, I exaggerate a little.

Besides the mental juggling and schedule juggling, there is juggling a baby, a diaper bag, a book bag, grocery bags, a bucket of laundry, and getting them all from the car to your place in one trip, in one piece, because you can't leave the baby in the house while you go to get the next load. Easier said then done.

I'm not going to lie, sometimes I wish daycare was open 24/7 so I can sleep somewhere in there. Driving from daycare to school, driving home every weekend to visit family, remembering to eat three meals a day, getting my homework done, and taking care of kaels needs (you try reading "Sociology ", which is every bit as exciting as it sounds), while your 15 month old who just learned how to say ball and is screaming BAWH!! At the top of his lungs well, it gets exhausting. By the time the day ends, I put Kael to bed, spend two hours doing dishes and picking up, scrubbing off, and organizing messes I didn't during the day, which gives me a solid hour to relax, watch a show, get into pajamas, and collapse into bed, just in time for Kael to wake up to play because midnight has become the cool time to play.

So why do I do it?

The comfort of knowing I am doing everything I can to give my son the best life I can, the life he deserves. The joy when I see his face light up with excitement when I pick him up from daycare. The pride as he accomplishes each new thing, gaining more and more independence every day. The feel of his little arms when they wrap around my neck, knowing without a doubt that I am all he wants, all he needs.

An apple a day

So Kael has never been a huge apple fan. I constantly cut them up put them in front of him and he never eats them.

Until last night when he picks up a whole apple and just starts chowing down.

What the hell is up with that?

For now on I am just going to plop his fruit down un cut and let him enjoy!

Ok so it doesn’t exactly work with Pineapple!

This is NOT my first post for NOT me Monday.

Yesterday it was NOT my son who pointed a a large women wearing brown and said "cohw". It was NOT my son who proceeded to MOO at her and say "cohw" over and over again, And I certainly did NOT say yes dear "Cows say MOO"

It was NOT me who was running late for school today so I did NOT leave my son in his PJ's and bring him to daycare. It was also was NOT me who gave my son a cookie for breakfast.

It is also NOT me who is neglecting her Law Homework to write a NOT me Monday post.

Serenading

Woke up this morning to the lovely sound of my son serenading the house.
It went like this

“♪♫ La la laaa,
ba ba ba baaaaaa,
da daaaaaaa
then with a nice finally of mummumaaaaa ♪♫”

Now your think aww how cute
WRONG
it was 5:30 am

I allowed him to sing until 6 am
I don't want to stifle his creativity

New rule in the house though serenading must happen only with in the hours of
8 am and midnight

Although if you break the rule it will only be punished with a quick cuddle and a sucky (aka pacifier)placed in your mouth then back to sleep.

I have been absent from my blog for many reasons.

First and the one the started it all was when Kael got sick.

It started Tuesday.
3 Tuesdays ago
Kael woke up with a fever.
I medicated him with some Tylenol
The fever subsided
For the rest of the day
I put him to bed at 7:30pm
He sleeps peacefully, or so I thought
Some was brewing beneath the calm
At 1:30 am he awoke
He just needed a snuggle and back to bed
1:45 I went to bed
2:00 I heard a blood curdling scream over the monitor
I thought someone was harming my child
I ran into his room pick my crying child from his crib
I inspected him
Nothing seem to be wrong
He started grunting
I realized his stomach was rock hard
Constipation I thought
I settled him and he went back to sleep
Or so I thought
We were awake every ten minute interval
Or the same thing screaming, grunting, settle then sleep
That happened until 6 am
When I decided it was something much more the simple constipation
We headed to the local ER
Arrived at the ER
Then rushed him through right into a private room
His Oxygen states were low his hear rate was high
He was screaming in pain
They gave him drug to calm him
Then started on the test
Urine test
Blood test
Chest x ray
Belly X-ray
Belly ultra sound
Heart ultra sound

After seeing a barrage of doctors
They gave us freighting news
His intestines were knuckling
Or folding in on them self
They wanted to do surgery
Or we could wait and see if they would return to normal after the night
I opted to wait
If they remained folded for longer then 12 hours he would die
Thankfully he came out of it after 8 hours
What caused this is the problem
The doctors had no idea
They said it was possible a combo of thing
Constipation
Along with a viruses
Swollen stomach glands
Step throat
Two ear infection
Possible dairy allergy

Today his is doing well, almost back to his old self
We have officially taken dairy out of his diet
And increased the dose of his inhalers.

2. The other reason I haven’t been blogging lately is because I have returned back to school. I am in the law a justice program.
But this blog isn’t about me

My boyfriend and I couldn't agree on a name and well while I was in labor he said what about KAEL.

And I said fine.

A couple days ago I asked my ex boyfriend where he had heard the name Kael and he said it's a WOW character.

My reaction was something like this: Please note there was more swearing in my reaction but use your imagination.

My son is names after a stupid video game?

Ex: Well yes.

End of conversation.

I m not mad, anymore.

I love his name.

and now he has a good story.

A trip to the ER!

So Saturday Kael and I had to make a little trip to the ER.

The down side of moving away from home is the Kael is two hours away from the doctors that care for him , i.e. his GP, his pediatrician, his surgeon, his heart specialist and any doctor that has taking care of him.

So when he sparked a fever and couldn't poo and was screaming in pain, I took him to the ER.

Canadian ER's work like this, you walking in with your health card you see a triage nurse who accesses the severity of the situation then you head to registry where you are registered and then you go and sit and wait. The sickest are seen first.

Kael was apparently deemed sickest as are wait was about 15 minutes. There were old people and young babies and people with broken legs people with head contusions and Kael was still the sickest and was called in first. But I guess when you have a fever and a child with belly pains they take no chances.

I am thankful for the Canadian health care system it’s not the best but its alright I could be American and have to pay to wait.

When we saw the doctor he assessed Kael, prescribed some medicine for constipation.

He found and infection over a tooth which was accountable for the fever.

He will be fine in a few days!

Birthday, today and the day before

So today is my birthday, I am 26.
To me it's just another day.
So not much celebrating was done.

Today,
I took Kael to the splash pad.

He enjoys the water but he's unsure of all the screaming kids.
Although my son is a rowdy boy, out in public he is a mild mannered charming boy.
He prefers to save his rowdiness for me at home.

Yesterday I took kael to the park, he played in the sand, went down the slide and had a grand old time.

The day before yesterday, kael got a new hair cut and once again he can sport the ever so good looking Mohawk.

So it's been a month since i last posted.
well i have good reason.
1. The ex/baby daddy is home.
2. I am going back to school
3. i am currently living with said ex/baby daddy
yes i have moved.
I m not currently happy with the situation but it allows for me to go to school with out paying rent.

Kael gets to spend time with his father.

KAEL also has big new.

Kael will be starting daycare well its more like school.

he will learn new and exciting things.

like sign language
how to sit on a big boy chair
how to sleep in a big boy bed
how to eat with utensils
how to play with others

that last one is fairly important
because my son is a bully

he is still on the verge
I've seen him sneak steps in when know on is looking

Today I went out and bought him new shoes.
i was looking for a good walking shoe
and couldn't find one that was reasonable priced so

my son got a nice pair of air Jordan shoes
the kid has freakish large feet like huge

he is one and wears a toddler size 6

freaking crazy!!
